Stop “practicing piano.”
Start playing music.

If you’ve had 2–5 years of lessons but still can’t play by ear, improvise, or sit in at a jam—David Stevens will teach you the practical musicianship most teachers skip.

This is for you if…

  • You love the sound-world of jazz + pop (40s–80s)
  • You want to improvise, comp, and play with others
  • You want to understand harmony (not just memorize notes)
  • You rely on sheet music and freeze without it
  • You can play songs, but you don’t feel fluent

ABOUT ME

Hey, I’m Your Instructor

David Stevens helps intermediate pianists who feel stuck after a few years of lessons become real-world musicians—able to read charts, play by ear, understand harmony, and play with other people confidently. He’s performed professionally on keys, bass, percussion, and vocals, and brings that full-band perspective into every lesson.

David began piano at age nine and raced through method books in two years, practicing four hours a day simply because he loved to play. At eleven, he studied classical piano for four years with Dr. Richard Anderson, Professor of Piano at Brigham Young University, building a foundation across Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern repertoire.

Then came his first jam session. Invited by older musicians, David realized he couldn’t read a chart or truly sit in—and he decided: never again. He dove into theory, harmony, and the practical skills that make music come alive in real time.

In his late teens and early twenties, David toured and performed with bands in Puerto Rico, then went on to perform for six years with the U.S. Air Force after a successful audition.

David has taught piano since his teens. Today he focuses on the “vital stuff” many students never get from method books or theory texts: ear training, harmony, improvisation, analysis, and the skills to communicate musically—so you can sit down at the piano and actually play.
